I’ve been a photographer for over ten years, and I’ve shot weddings for most of my career. Although I’m now retired to stay home with my littles, I still manage to take our own family portraits every year. We actually take them almost every month, because it’s that easy!
Would you believe me if I said that you can too? I use my iPhone camera, a tripod, and a clicker. The proof is below.
In this video below, I’m going to share with you how I do it. It’s so simple, and I swear you’re going to be amazed! I’m adding two videos, one is a tutorial on how to take your own family portraits using just your iPhone, and then the second video is my iPhone camera settings I have on my phone because they are just as important!
Taking photos of kids, can be a little tricky, but here are my tricks that I used to use on families when I would photograph them. If you follow these, I promise you will get the cutest photos!
Taking Photos with Kids
Once you are in the frame, say “Everybody look at Daddy and laugh!” The kids are guaranteed to laugh or smile, at this time click a bunch with your clicker. I like to take turns with this phrase and switch off from Daddy, to each sibling, and then to me. This works with taking turns on tickling and hugging too and always gives the cutest expressions!
